  Imperial Sugar occupies a sweet spot in its field, manufacturing such 
well-known brands as Dixie Crystals, Holly, and Imperial. In addition to 
branded and private-label consumer products (white, brown, and powdered 
sugars), the company sells bulk sugar to industrial and foodservice customers. 
Its Savannah Gold brown sugar, syrup and molasses, and specialty sugars are 
used by Imperial's industrial customers in confections and icings. The company 
also sells sugar-production by-products. It operates two cane sugar refineries, 
one in Georgia, the other in Louisiana. 

   

   

  SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

   

        The Team Manager - Refinery is an integral part of the Imperial Sugar 
Savannah management team.  This position is expected to lead and manage the 
refineries business and technical objectives in alignment with Imperial Sugar's 
overall strategy.  The focus of this position is to produce measurable results 
in Environmental/Safety/Health, Quality/Food Safety, and Financial (Cost and 
Asset Management).  This position ensures all plant activities are conducted in 
compliance with all laws, regulations and Imperial Sugar's Corporation policies 
and procedures.  Manages refinery operations to support business plans in a 
manner which will yield maximum safety, security, efficiency, and 
profitability. Responsible to provide vision; set objectives; monitor 
results/performance; establish programs and systems; sponsor safety and quality 
standards/improvements; develop/coach staff; assist in problem-solving; provide 
inspiration, support and feedback; and manage all aspects of refinery 
operations.  Along with producing measurable results, a key focus of this 
position is to develop people who are capable of advancing either technically 
or managerially in the organization.  This position assists in representing 
Imperial Sugar's interests to other parties at the site and to the community.

   

        Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  ·         Produce sustainable, measurable results in 
Environmental/Safety/Health, Quality/Food Safety, and Financial (Cost and Asset 
Management). through defined processes.



  ·         Create a team environment with engagement at all levels and respect 
for all people.  (Create a work environment that is conducive to producing 
continuous improvement, and retaining a high quality, engaged workforce. 
Continuously elevate performance expectations and organizational 
capacity/capability to achieve new levels.)

  ·         Customer Focus - Assure the  Refinery area contributes to a 
customer-focused culture of discipline, attention-to-detail and teamwork.

  ·         Use a system approach that shares resources and knowledge across 
all sites minimizing the need for corporate overhead.

  ·         Develop people at all levels allowing them to continuously increase 
their work satisfaction and success.  (Responsible for all personnel aspects 
and good labor relations while holding people accountable for their performance 
through performance management process.

  ·         Effectively implement and apply LEAN, six sigma, 5S, AIB, and TPM 
and other processes to achieve improved performance.  Apply statistical tools 
to effectively manage and reduce operations variation.

  ·         Selectively apply automation and information technology to improve 
decision making and operations management.

  ·         Continuously improve refinery business processes to achieve higher 
levels of productivity, efficiency and effectiveness.

  ·         Responsible for reporting potential operating issues to upper 
management and recommending appropriate courses of action.

  ·         Required to report physically to the prime work location. Expected 
travel 10%.  Expected to understand and communicate with other Imperial Sugar 
and/or external refineries to put best practices in place.

  ·         Lead the refinery in operation excellence effort toward >90% 
productivity (Uptime*Yield*Capacity)

  ·         Lead the refinery to a TRR of less than 2.0 and implement 
improvements in the safety processes to continue to reduce injuries to zero.

  ·         Take leadership in problem solving in day to day issues.  Analyze, 
report, and optimize refinery daily operations to management.

  ·         Develop, prioritize and assist in creating and implementing a 
maintenance strategy focus on preventive maintenance.

  ·         Routinely meet with refinery personnel to communicate pertinent 
operating and business information.

  ·         Manage the production process to insure the proper quality and 
quantity of product.

  ·         Support sugar loss improvement initiatives for the refinery.

  ·         Participate in the refinery's annual capital and maintenance plan.

   



  EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

   

  ·         7-10 years in plant operations in refining, petrochemical or 
chemical industries.

  ·         5 years management experience.

  ·         Demonstrated success with LEAN, Six Sigma and TPM methodologies.

  ·         Previous management of operations with less than a 2 TRR and higher 
than a 3 sigma.

  ·         5S, ISO 9000/14000, OHSAS 18000, HACCP experience a plus.

  ·         International experience a plus.

   

   

  SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

   

  ·         Ability to work in a matrix environment

  ·         Knowledge of FDA, AIB, OSHA, EEOC and EPA regulations.

  ·         Ability to work independently seeking guidance when appropriate.

  ·         Knowledge of engineering designs, project management and large 
capital project implementations.

  ·         Process optimization, mechanical and electrical 
equipment/instrumentation tuning and potential problem analysis. 

  ·         Good interpersonal, communication, presentation and public speaking 
skills.

   

   

  EDUCATION:

   

        A 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering preferred.
