ORGANIZATION

Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont (?GISP?) is one of over 160
autonomous Goodwill organizations in the United States and around the
world that make up Goodwill Industries International. Goodwill
Industries International is North America?s leading nonprofit provider
of education, training, and career services for people with
disadvantages, such as welfare dependency, homelessness, and lack of
education or work experience, as well as those with physical, mental and
emotional disabilities. GISP began providing services to people in the
region in 1965. The Southern Piedmont territory includes 13 counties in
North Carolina and five counties in South Carolina. The following are
the mission, vision and core values of GISP:

Mission: Changing Lives Through the Power of Work

Vision: All people in our region have the opportunity to develop to
their fullest potential through the power of work.
Values: We strive to reach our mission by applying the following core
values:
? Service: We are passionate in making life better for individuals and
for communities.
? Integrity: We meet the highest ethical standards and treat all people
with dignity and respect.
? Stewardship: We are stewards of our community by being socially,
financially and environmentally responsible.
? Innovation: We embrace continuous improvement, bold creativity and
positive change.
? Excellence: We challenge each other to continually learn and strive
for excellence.
GISP?s vibrant retail operation provides critical funding support for
the workforce development programs. With 19 stores spread across
Mecklenburg, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln and Union counties in North
Carolina and in York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina, GISP
consistently ranks among the leaders in Goodwill Industries
International?s critical performance ratings. The revenue from the
retail stores is 90% of the total revenue which in turn funds the
employment and training services along with other community projects.
Donations form the base of Goodwill?s ability to provide employment and
job training services. Thanks to over 925,000 donations last year, GISP
was able to provide clothing and household items for our retail stores
and divert more than 30 million pounds of goods from area landfills.
Financial donors assist Goodwill in expanding the number of services
offered and vehicle donors help provide reliable transportation for
those with transportation barriers.

Goodwill provides employment, job training and career services for
people with disadvantages, such as welfare dependency, homelessness and
lack of education or work experience, as well as those with physical,
mental and emotional disabilities. GISP provides services through
training classes, our job resource centers and on-the-job training
programs. The occupational skills training program provides for career
opportunities in banking, call centers, customer service and
hospitality.

The team at GISP believes that work has the power to transform lives by
building self-confidence, independence, creativity, trust and
friendships. Everyone deserves a chance to have these. GISP provides
that chance. Employers gain capable workers who are matched with
positions based on ability and have undergone Goodwill?s solid
vocational assessment and training. The community gains the benefits and
impact of people who are taxpayers instead of tax users.
