Fellow JSFG Members,
Recently it was suggested that JSFG members who were having difficulties
with the JSFG E-mail Mailing List contact the staff at FreeLists.org
(the people who provide JSFG with our free mailing list service).
Please do NOT do so.

*** IMPORTANT NOTE:
*** It is imperative that you
*** DO NOT CONTACT
*** the staff at FreeLists.org
***
The Steering Committee is aware of the fact that some of you have
experienced difficulties in subscribing and unsubscribing from the JSFG
E-mail Mailing List (also known as a ListServ). While the reasons for
the difficulties are beyond our control, we are very concerned about the
situation.
If you have a problem in subscribing to or unsubscribing from the JSFG
E-Mail Mailing List, please follow these steps:
1. Check the e-mail address that you are using. The
subscribe/unsubscribe process requires you to verify your identity by
replying to a confirmation e-mail that is sent by the FreeLists Mailing
List Manager. You do this by sending e-mail from the address that is
registered with FreeLists (please note: for your protection, e-mail that
is sent from unregistered addresses is ignored).
For example, if you attempted to unsubscribe but did not receive a
confirmation e-mail, you may have subscribed using a different e-mail
address. The JSFG E-Mail Mailing List sends postings to a group and does
not identify individual addressees. If your e-mail program collects mail
from multiple accounts and places all of the messages in a single inbox,
it can be difficult to determine which account a message was addressed to.
2. If Step 1 isn't the problem and you are having trouble in subscribing
to the list, read the Mailing List FAQ at:
http://www.jsfg.com/listservfaq.htm#howtojoin
and follow the instructions.
3. If Step 1 isn't the problem and you are having trouble in
unsubscribing from the list, read the Mailing List FAQ at:
http://www.jsfg.com/listservfaq.htm#howtoquit
and follow the instructions.
4. If that fails, send an e-mail the Computer Committee Chairperson at:
ComputerChair@xxxxxxxx
Use the e-mail address with which you wish to subscribe to (or
unsubscribe from) the Mailing List. Request that action be taken on your
behalf - be sure to specify what action to take. You MUST send the
e-mail from the e-mail address that you wish to use. Requests from other
e-mail addresses will be ignored in order to prevent pranksters from
abusing the system.
5. If you do not receive a response within a few days, please e-mail the
President at:
President@xxxxxxxx
and request intervention on your behalf. Again, you must send the e-mail
from the affected e-mail address to prevent mischief.
6. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you contact the staff at
FreeLists.org. All requests concerning the Mailing List must be made to
the JSFG Computer Chair or President only.
We know how frustrating it can be to deal with these problems and regret
any inconvenience you may have experienced. We look forward to working
with you.
