P&G looking at bids for human resources
------------------------------------------------------------
Just a day after closing on a facilities management outsourcing deal
with Jones Lang LaSalle, Procter & Gamble Co. is turning its attention
to its human resources functions.
The Cincinnati-based consumer goods giant is now looking at bids from
four companies to take over its human resources operation, which
includes travel, payroll and benefits management, according to a report
by Bloomberg News.
P&G spokesman Damon Jones told Bloomberg that Cincinnati-based Convergys
Corp. is one of the bidders, along with Hewlett-Packard, International
Business Machines Corp. and Accenture Ltd. Jones said the contract will
likely be awarded this year, and 700 of P&G human resources employees in
the United States, United Kingdom, Costa Rica and the Philippines would
either be transferred to the new company or would lose their jobs.
The company has not said how much the contract might be worth or how
much P&G would save by outsourcing the human resources operations.
P&G's recent moves to outsource parts of its operations are part of an
overall plan to reduce costs and maximize profits. On May 6, P&G
finalized a 10-year, $3 billion deal with Hewlett-Packard Co. to
outsource information technology (IT) managed services. Then June 17,
the company closed on an expansive five-year, $700 million facilities
management outsourcing agreement with Jones Lang LaSalle. Each of those
agreements has required hundreds of P&G employees to transfer to a new
employer.
