[jsfg_cinti] Need your help and attendance.

Dear fellow job seekers,
Lisa Kaminski, Pam Gewin and Wes Archiable will be or next presenters.-
for January 23. They will be presenting information on mistakes that
screen us out as applicants. This will be from both a recruiter's
perspective and an HR perspective.

They have asked for questions that they can address. I have provided
some (see below). If you have other questions you would like them to
answer, please e-mail them to Lisa (her e-mail is in the message below).

Our three person panel is uniquely qualifed to answer your questions.
Please plan to attend the talk, ask questions, and use the information
to get more interviews and improve your chances of getting the job you
want.

Dear Lisa,

Barb Hoffman collected those at the last meeting and has them in hard
copy form.
I expect she will have them at the meeting. You might be able to reach
her at 761-8989.

Some questions that worry people are:

1. Is my resume turning people off?

2. I want to make a career change. How to document in my resume that I
have the qualifications to be a technical writer. I have great writing
skills, but have not had a job with technical writing as a title.

3. Why can't I get interviews?

4. When I had the interview, it seemed to go well and then no further
progress. What happened?

5. Why is it so hard to get anyone on the telephone?

6. How can a great person with my obvious talents be passed over?

7. I am 55 and have great abilities and energy. How can I convey my
value without having people think of me as too old, too expensive, or
too overqualified?

8. I don't feel like would-be employers are treating me very well. How
do I come to understand that their priorities may be different, their
time frames may be different and they they are apparently too busy to
worry about how they are treating me? (How can I not take it
personally?)

Bruce
