OurMission is to educate the public about the historic struggle to abolish
humanenslavement and secure freedom for all people. The Freedom Center teaches
lessons of courage and cooperation fromUnderground Railroad history to promote
collaborative learning, dialogue andaction in order to inspire todayâ??s
freedom
movements.
ONLINE COMMUNITY MANAGER
The NationalUnderground Railroad Freedom Center is developing its Web site, <A
HREF="http://www.freedomcenter.org/">
www.freedomcenter.org</A>, into an onlinedestination for exploring issues of
freedom, from the Underground Railroadthrough the modern day. The new site will
launch on or before March 31,2006.The site will provide users with access to a
global community inspired bythe museum experience brought to life online. Once
users enter the site, theapplication facilitates museum visitation and the
spread of the message andworks of the Freedom Center between community members
via
blogs, instantmessaging, chat, pod casting and message boards.
Position Summary:
Reporting tothe Sr. Director/Chief Officer for Community Engagement as a
member of theMuseum Programs staff, the Online Community Manager will ensure
that
theFreedom Centerâ??s online experience provides exceptional value to its
users.Close monitoring, and tweaking, of the content and functionality of the
onlinecommunity will be required to improve community â??stickinessâ?? and to
maximizeuser benefit. Among other duties, this position will regularly
collaborate
withother museum programs staff as well as marketing/communications staff
tomaintain the Freedom Centerâ??s homepage and related content.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Convert online visitors intoactive participants in the Freedom Center
community.
Optimize visitation to the Website to increase pool for community conversion
Update community content andgraphics.
Maintain high levels ofengagement of registered users in both the Freedom
Centerâ??s FreedomConductors and Freedom Stations program Web sites.
Post updates from marketing/communicationsto the Freedom Centerâ??s homepage
Maximize community usefulnessto target user-base.
Assume the role of advocatefor Freedom Centerâ??s online community members.
Gather community feedback fromour users and work to implement appropriate
suggestions.
Secure content and expertisefrom appropriate Freedom Center departments that
will increase communityvalue.
Monitor and report communitygrowth trends.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Desire towork in the cause-oriented environment promoting freedom
- Proficiencywith HTML, ASP, ASP.Net (preferred), SQL
- Excellentcommunication skills (written and verbal).
- Previousexperience managing an online community (preferred)
- At least oneyear experience developing and maintaining websites
- Bachelorâ??sdegree in Communications, History, or complementary field
- Outgoing,creative and detail-oriented.
