Hello all:
Well, to update everyone about the above situation where they are asking for
social security number on their online application web page:
I called my attorney in Columbus to ask him his opinion about this and he
told me that what they are doing is not illegal,(I assume he means, at least
not in Ohio). But he said he didn't see why it was necessary for an employer
to ask for a SS# just to do a background check on an applicant until they have
decided to hire that person. And why would they want to go to all that trouble
anyway of doing background checks on all applicants when not all applicants
will probably be hired.
Anyway, I called the office of Kings Island and I told them that I wanted to
apply for a job but I am not comfortable putting my SS# out on the Internet, so
they said I could come to their office and put in an application in person and
that way they will only put it on their Intranet. Well, I still don't feel
comfortable having my SS# on their Intranet unless I am going to be hired.,
although it is probably more secure than putting it out on the Internet.
Of course the jobs are just seasonal and not even in my usual line of work,
but it might be fun and a chance to make some money.
Any opinions?
Thanks
Bill
