Job group calls job fair successful
Job Search Focus Group proved once again its commitment to bringing together
unemployed professionals and potential employers with the success of its
Fall 2008 Job Fair. More than 250 people attended the Nov. 17 event, which
drew a sold-out crowd of 41 booth participants, the highest number ever for
a JSFG job fair.
Darrell Barger, an account executive with Management Recruiters (MRI) based
in Sharonville, expressed a positive outlook for this event in these tough
economic times, praising JSFG and the people who attended.
"I talked with several high-caliber people, whom I could advise about their
careers and refer to other recruiters and MRI professionals," he said.
JSFG member Joyce Bucci of Milford concurred, noting the value of networking
with quality organizations and the diversity of the industries represented.
Indeed, the event included recruiters for information technology, government
services, accounting, health care, continuing education among other
professions.
"I made sure I took advantage of the opportunity to talk with everyone at
the Job Fair," Bucci said. "If there wasn't an exact fit, I made sure I got
names and contact information for several companies that might offer a
better fit."
JSFG President Bob Pautke of Anderson Township expects that the Job Fair
will fuel more success for JSFG members in the coming months. "We're
confident that the connections made here will launch the next state of many
careers at the start of the next year.
"The response and turnout set a new standard for successful connections and
truly supports our mission. This is a great example of what our
organization, our volunteers and the companies in Cincinnati are doing to
get our local job market back on its feet."
Hosted by the Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, JSFG is the
largest volunteer organization in the Cincinnati area with the mission to
support members seeking career opportunities as well as employers looking to
fill positions with highly qualified employees (90 percent of members hold
bachelor's degrees; 60 percent, master's degrees).
Since its inception in 1992, JSFG has served the needs of more than 10,000
members. Services include a professional profiles program, career
announcements, networking events, job-hunting resources, professional guest
speakers, workshops and seminars. Most recently, the Web site has been
upgraded to allow for more in-depth candidate profiles, which are searchable
by employers.
Meetings are each Monday morning. For more information, call the office at
