Job Description

Job Title: International Buyer   Job Grade: PG10

Department: Materials
Supervisor: Director of Purchasing

Position Summary

Procures a variety of materials from international suppliers to support
business operations and ensure optimum inventory investment.

Essential Functions

Regularly negotiates with suppliers to secure appropriate cost, schedule,
quality, payment, and delivery terms.
Generates and places purchase orders for a variety of goods. Follows up with
suppliers and Hillman staff to ensure required delivery.
Accurately completes import paperwork as required by US Customs regulations.
Determines reorder points for non-Material Requirement Planning (MRP) items.
Tracks inventory activity and works with Hillman staff to minimize inventory
levels and costs.
Accurately documents all transactions in the automated purchasing and
inventory control system.
Works with Hillman staff to outline cost, quality, and delivery
specifications for new items.
Researches and locates sources for new goods. Evaluates quotes and selects
suppliers.
Works with Hillman staff to develop solutions for receiving, accounts
payable, and discrepant material issues.
Continually seeks improved sources for materials.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with suppliers.
Monitors supplier performance and addresses issues as needed.
Maintains a current knowledge of company operations, market trends, and US
customs regulations.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Travels overnight internationally as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent plus continued education in purchasing;
college degree in business or supply chain management preferred.
Three years related experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of international freight, currency exchange rates,
and US customs regulations.
Knowledge of automated production and inventory control and purchasing
systems.
Knowledge of supplier management and supplier certification.
Knowledge of Excel and Windows.
Excellent analytical, negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
