[jsfg_cinti] Job Search Learning Labs Weekly Reminder

Good Evening,

Due to moving to our new home, it has been a number of weeks since I have sent
out weekly JSLL weekly reminders to all of you. After weeks of falling over
boxes, and misplacing every single item we have owned the last thirty-seven
years I am up and running again.

My advice to all of you who are thinking of “scaling back” in your next move…
it won’t happen, so don’t even attempt it! The next time I “scale back” and
“travel light” will be when they take me out the front door of this new home,
feet first, in a hearse!

I worked so hard unpacking boxes and placing all my “treasures” just the way I
wanted them, and then realized that I had to decorate for Christmas! The
“treasures” went back into hiding and the search has been on for all the
Christmas decorations!

Now, I will bring you up-to-date on what is happening at Job Search Learning
Labs for the rest of the year, and into early 2012.

As all of you know, LinkedIn is a very important tool for anyone in the job
search. Because of that, JSLL tries to present LinkedIn approximately every two
months. Even if you have a LinkedIn page, you should never feel that it is the
best that it can be. LinkedIn is always adding, and enhancing features to help
you improve your page. You always have something new to learn.

Join us this Friday, December 9, for an open panel discussion on LinkedIn.
Bring your questions for the panel, and join us in the computer lab after class
where we will give you one-on-one help with your page. We will be happy to take
your photo and add it to your page. Our volunteer, Helen, has a command of the
English language and will be happy proofread, or help you find just the correct
word, or words to use to catch an employer’s eye.

LET’S PARRRTY!!! December 16 will be our annual Potluck holiday celebration.
If you want to bring an appetizer or dessert to share, it would be appreciated
but not necessary. We are even going to have door prizes so you don’t want to
miss out on that.

Here is the schedule for the next four weeks, so mark your calendar.

December 23 - No JSLL – Enjoy the Holidays!

December 30 - No JSLL – HAPPY NEW YEAR!

January 6, 2012 - Strategies for Successful Interviewing, Jeff Yund

January 13, 2012 - Job Search from a Recruiter's Point of View, Jennifer
McClure

Now that we are in the season of the “White Death”, we want to remind you that
if the weather is bad the Anderson Township Senior Center follows the school
closings posted by the Forest Hills Schools.

DIRECTIONS AND COMPLETE INFORMATION ON THE JOB SEARCH LEARNING LABS ARE AT THE

Do not forget our Personal Marketing Workshop. These are FREE services!

Sign up for times for:

Video of Your Elevator Speech:
Video equipment will not be available every week so we will schedule your
video a week in advance. Remember to dress professionally for your close-up
with Cecil B. DeMille.

LinkedIn Photo:
You may want to dress professionally to have your picture taken for
inclusion on your LinkedIn site. We will even help you add it to your site. We
have settled on blue backgrounds for the photos so keep that in mind when
selecting your shirt or blouse.

Computer Lab Time:
The lab is available for you to work on LinkedIn, ask general questions or
just work on the computer.

Unfortunately, the business card reader, that so cleverly scanned business
cards, does not seem compatible with the new laptops in the computer lab and is
currently unavailable. We are working to solve the problem.

Registration and networking starts at 1:00 PM with class from 1:30 PM to
2:45 PM. There is computer lab time immediately after the meeting until 3:45 if
anyone needs help with computer questions. The center is Wi-Fi connected so
feel free to bring your laptop.

Classes are free, dress is casual and there is no obligation, but if you
care to donate $1.00 to $2.00 to the Free Will Offering it would be
appreciated. Even though the Senior Center does not charge us, the offering
helps defray costs and are used to buy equipment and supplies for JSLL in order
to better serve our membership.

Anticipated JSLL meeting dates and topics may change, so check back
regularly!

The Job Search Learning Labs is located at the Anderson Township Senior
Citizens Center, 7970 Beechmont Avenue. When heading east, note that the
building is on the north side of the street, set back about 100 yards from
Beechmont Avenue. The driveway is between the fire station to the west and the
former Hollywood Video building to the east. Look for the flashing yellow
emergency light.

Begin your week with the Job Search Focus Group and end the week with the Job
Search Learning Labs. We would love to see you Friday.
