VICE PRESIDENT OF UNDERWRITING
DUTIES:
-This position is in Texas (major city)
-Report to the President
-New Business
-Renewals
-Executive Committee
-Risk Management
-Assist Finance and work with outside actuaries in the rate making for the
Company
-Develop consistent guidelines, procedures and standards for underwriting
risk and monitoring the overall effectiveness of the underwriting function
-Enforce adherence to Underwriting Guidelines, Policies and Procedures and
be responsible for approval of exceptions.
-Educate policyholders, applicants and agents regarding company policies,
procedures and guidelines.
-Provide training and guidance to Underwriting staff.
-Monitor and report to the internally and to the Board on changes in account
exposure throughout the year, the loss ratio of the Company and non-renewals
-Attend conventions and other industry related events
-Work with outside reinsurance and financial auditors
REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelor's Degree or higher required
-Minimum of five years in a lead role as medical malpractice underwriter,
and a minimum of 7-10 years experience
-CPCU designation is desirable
-Strong business management skills with the ability to balance business
needs with solid financial control
-Attention to detail as well as the ability to see the impact of risk on
company objectives
-Underwrite to a profitable result following Company and Underwriting
Department guidelines and principles
-Hands-on and self-motivated team player, who can wear many hats
-Ability to research and formulate recommendations pertaining to
underwriting issues.
-Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships at all levels
-Strong written and verbal communication skills
-Proven interpersonal and organizational skills
-Strong work ethic and willingness to work long hours as needed
-Must be able to travel
COMPENSATION (up to $120,000/yr. base + bonus)
-Base salary - commensurate with experience
-Bonus - based upon company and individual performance
-Excellent Insurance Benefits subsidized by the company for health, dental,

-401(k) Retirement Plan with company match
-Vacation - Two (2) weeks of vacation initially, increasing to three (3)
weeks upon five (5) years of employment
-Professional fee subsidies - reimbursement for all necessary licensure
(CPCU) and continuing education fees and training
