This position is responsible for providing database administration and support 
for several production databases. These databases use the Oracle 8i, 9i and 10g 
Real Application Cluster platforms, have 24x7 uptime requirements and have 
significant scalability needs. The Database Administrator should be able 
install and upgrade Oracle software, set up new databases, upgrade database 
schemas, perform database instance tuning and SQL tuning, configure and 
optimize backup and recovery strategies, show proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL, 
provide input towards capacity planning. Knowledge of Unix (HPUX, Red Hat 
Linux) and shell scripting language is essential. Experience with Oracle 10g 
Real Application Cluster is highly desirable. Experience with SQL Server 
Administration is preferable.

Principal Responsibilities:
Set up and administer Oracle databases in production environment. 
Support application deployment efforts. 
Ensure high availability and reliability of the databases. 
Ensure the database performance meets the application and end user needs. 
Set up and manage backup and recovery procedures. 
Plan and execute batch database operations as needed. 
Apply Oracle patches and perform Oracle release upgrades. 
Provide architectural recommendations as needed.

Requirements_Qualif: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of the concepts and best practices applicable to 
administration of large and high volume database management systems. 
Able to provide best practices recommendation towards the improvement and 
scalability of the application design. 
Ability to identify performance bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve 
the throughput and response time. 
Strong backup and recovery skills. 
Ability to perform Oracle software upgrade and database schema upgrades to 
support application deployment. 
A good working knowledge of Unix and awareness of the OS performance metrics 
and their relationship to the database performance. 
Ability to write scripts using shell scripting language and PL/SQL. 
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
Strong organizational and prioritization skills. 
Minimum Requirements:
Must have a minimum of 8 years administering Oracle databases with at least 3 
years of 24x7 production support experience. 
Multi-platform exposure: Linux, Windows NT/2000, HP-UX 
Excellent communication and customer service skills. 
BS in Computer Science or related field of study preferred or comparable on the 
job experience. 
Preferred skills:
Microsoft SQL Server Administration 
Experience with J2EE application and familiarity with JDBC. 
IT Service Management (ITIL) experience or certification 
Experience with HP Service Desk and HP Open View
