design and development services to our clients having a wide cross-section of 
product and/or special machines.  Product designs include single piece fixture 
designs, integrated multi-part plastic systems to comprehensive integrated 
system mechanisms having electro-mechanical and hydro-mechanical subsystems 
with active controls.  

PEI has requirements for mechanical designers to design and develop products or 
special machines from written and/or verbalized requirements and converting 
those requirements into conceptual layout designs and finally detail and 
assembly drawings.  Essential qualities for the role are a strong mechanical 
aptitude and understanding cost effective manufacturing processes. 

JOB: 
        Mechanical Designer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

        Ability to generate layout designs, detail parts and assemblies 
that meet client goals and objectives based on information received, and 
industry standards and specifications.

        Applies proper dimensioning and tolerancing principles to 
define allowable variation of parts and assemblies based upon the design 
functional specifications, and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and 
Tolerancing.

        Ability to structure the component relationships into 
sub-systems and the final assembly using approved bill of material techniques.

        Prepares and/or reviews drawings and models from blueprints, 
designs, mockups, sketches, and photoprints by methods and techniques suited to 
specified customer requirements.  Ability to work with engineers and/or other 
designers in order to carry out responsibilities.

        Responsible for drawing clarity, including layering, model 
orientation, database management, and fundamentals of CAD file organization.

        Generates and/or reviews engineering drawings and CAD files by 
being fluent in operation of CAD software such as: Pro/Engineer, Solidworks, 
Solidedge, Catia, AutoCAD or other.

        Utilizes knowledge and understanding of views, sections, weld 
symbols and information drawing notes pertaining to materials, plating, heat 
treat, etc., functional part dimensioning standards ASME-Y14.5 and DOD-100.

        Operates and is familiar with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 
Office.  

        Operates equipment such as computers, printers, plotters, 
phones, fax machines, Internet browsers, email, copiers, and plotters as 
required.

        Creates and writes procedures for others to follow in building 
and checking of drawings and models

        May teach, train, or direct others in software, dimensioning, 
or other areas that relate to specific customer requirements and/or projects.

        Performs any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned to 
him/her on an as needed basis.

        Fills out all company documents such as timesheets, job 
tracking logs, job notes database, gathers/records information from projects 
and logs accurately.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 
        Associate Degree (AAS or AS) or equivalent from a two year 
college or technical school, related experience and/or training; or equivalent 
combination of education and experience.

Parametric/Parasolid CAD systems:
o       Pro/E Wildfire 2 & 3
o       SolidWorks 2006 or later
o       Solid Edge V18 or later
        Demonstrated proficiency with 2D AutoCAD 2000 or later

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
        Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, 
and memos of simple to medium complexity.
        Ability to write simple, informative correspondence with proper 
grammar and spelling.
        Ability to effectively present information to other employees 
of the organization or Project Leader.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
        Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of 
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
        Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and 
interpret bar graphs.
        Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and 
trigonometry.
