Position Description 
Master Production Scheduler
Behm Quartz Industries, Ltd.
SUMMARY
The primary role of the Master Production Scheduler role is to schedule
all product production to achieve the timely manufacture of
semi-finished and finished goods with the right priorities such that the
Behm team achieves world-class customer service goals, honors on time
delivery commitments, minimizes inventory levels, and efficiently
utilizes available labor and capacity. This role will manage the
creation and continuous update of the manufacturing schedule for the
facility and will drive raw material ordering, sub-contracted services
and labor hiring. 
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
A team oriented person with a Bachelor degree in engineering, operations
management, or business, with a minimum of 2-3 years hands-on experience
in capacity planning and production scheduling.  Working knowledge of
various manufacturing principles and ideologies including MRP, Kanban,
Lean Manufacturing, Just in Time, and Supply Chain Management is highly
desirable.  Prefer APICS CPIM certification preferred or ability to
obtain such within 18 months.
Must have:
*        Hands-on experience with MPS/MRP/ERP systems
*        Experience with discrete batch manufacturing scheduling
processes.
*        Demonstrated expertise with trending, forecasting, and
quantitative data analysis.
*        Appreciate the entire mathematical process involved in the
scheduling role, can not simply insert information into a system
*        Understand the "why's" and "how's" of the scheduling process
Experience in the quartz machining industry a major plus. 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.      Directs and controls the scheduling of production, assembly, and
subassembly of assigned manufacturing departments to
ensure all customer orders are satisfied in a timely manner.
2.      Ensure that the customer requirements are balanced with business
needs, adopting the most effective overall solution (including
appropriate risk identification and mitigation).
3.      Analyze customer demand information and forecasts to plan,
organize, and prepare the master schedule for production, identify raw
material requirements, number of pieces, release dates, and ship dates.
Schedule machine run time in accordance with predetermined time
standards, machine capacities, tooling, labor, and other related
factors.
4.      Coordinate with purchasing, engineering, production, and other
functions to establish schedules, timing of raw material
procurement, tooling staging and purchasing, bills of materials
preparation, and operations sequence.
5.      Establish priorities for subassembly operations to ensure that
components are available for assembly operations and/or customer
delivery dates.
6.      Schedule subcontract operations required per Bill of Material.
Make recommendations for use of sub-contractors to alleviate bottle
necks. 
7.      Use the manufacturing system to balance forecasted demand and
customer orders with on-hand inventory and firmed production quantities
to create a master schedule that meets the customers' delivery
requirements.
8.      Revise and reschedule orders to compensate for rush orders,
materials shortages, vendor failure to deliver, customer cancellations,
etc.
9.      Make any changes to the schedule deemed necessary to achieve
stated goals.
10. Manage the daily flow of information to assure that all departments
are aware of the production schedule.
11. Develop contingency plans to prevent unexpected developments from
compromising production staffing plans and on-time customer deliveries.
12. Manage inventory levels, replenishment policies, and recommend  team
member utilization changes where appropriate to meet customer
satisfaction and other business goals.
13. Understand and communicate the inventory implications of schedules
and ensure appropriate inventory advance planning.
14. Prepare required analyses of inventory positions and schedule
attainments.
15. Create / update production jobs, visual scheduling and review level
loading of manufacturing work centers.
16. Develop projects to improve the planning process to minimize the
impact of demand volatility.
17. Assist in cross-training employees.
18. Perform other essential and related duties as may be assigned.

1.      Demonstrated ability to work with a team, offer and accept
constructive criticism, and mentor team members to enhanced
capabilities.
2.      Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with all
organizational levels, customers and vendors.
3.      Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the English language in
reading, writing, and speaking.
4.      Strong analytical skills and ability to work with numbers. 
5.      Demonstrated ability to understand and use financial reports as
a management tool.
6.      Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers and business
related software.
7.      Demonstrated ability to manage several activities / projects at
once, to organize / prioritize work, to meet deadlines and to prepare
plans and budgets.
