Summary:
Interfaith Hospitality Network is seeking a Childcare Worker to assist in
providing supervision of children of client families at its Day Center.
Supervision of children will allow for guest families to maximize their time
executing plans to achieve their number one goal: to attain permanent
housing. High School diploma or equivalent and experience related to this
position are required.

The ideal candidate will provide supervision and stimulating activities to
children and youth between the ages of 2 months and 18 years. Duties with
school-aged children are minimal since they are generally in school.
Childcare will be provided only to children of parents on-site. The
childcare worker will be responsible for maintaining order of children and
organization within the play area. This position requires an innovative
individual that is capable of introducing age-appropriate activities to
engage the children being supervised. Reading to children and teaching them
simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs is a good way of achieving
this. The childcare worker may be required to support children's emotional
and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive
self-concepts. Utilization of a strengths-based perspective is preferred.
The number of children at any one time usually ranges from 7 to 10.

Accountability: Accountable to the Facilities Manager

Position Responsibilities:
Oversee children at the Day Center between the hours of 9 am and 1pm with a
15 minute break mid- morning.
Develop and carry out activities that will engage children.
Utilize creative methods of integrating educational concepts within time
spent with children.
Organize and participate in recreational activities, such as games.
Read to children and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and
songs.
Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas.
Discipline children utilizing a positive-reinforcement approach to maintain
order within the play area.
Recommend or initiate other measures to control behavior such as caring for
own clothing and picking up toys and books.
Identify potential signs of emotional or developmental problems in children
and bring them to IHN staff's attention.
Take responsibility for daily general clean up of childcare area such as
putting all toys away and cleaning all paints.
