Fellow JSFG Members,
Some of you contributed a month or so ago to an article being
written my Jim McNair of the Cinti. Enquirer on jobs lost to offshore
companies. The link below will take you to the story that resulted, in
case you missed it. Below that is a response received by Jim from someone
trying to fill IT jobs that stayed home. This gentlemen's contact
information is given at the bottom. This might be an opportunity for some
of our members who speak IT.

James,
Just read your article in the paper. I completely sympathize with these
workers - it's a fear we all have these days. However, we've been
continually looking for talented IT professionals at USBank. However, even
with keeping the work here in Cincinnati, it seems that 80%+ of the resumes
that I receive are from workers here on temporary visas. I think I've only
ever seen one resume from a permanent citizen that's been "displaced", and
he took a different job instead of the one that we offered. I've hired over
15 people myself at USBank in the last year, and have actually been forced
to turn to contractors to fill gaps that I cannot fill with qualified IT
employees. We're looking for highly skilled, highly experience employees,
that have at 7+ years experience in the software industry, and are willing
to pay competitive wages. I'm struggling to find people just like the ones
you mentioned in your story.
I'd like to give USBank in general, and our CIO in particular, kudos for
recognizing the value of keeping jobs and money in the United States, and
recognizing that the success of the bank's IT department isn't based on
dollars per man hour, but the people that are involved. I also applaud them
for investing in the "US" in USBank and keeping the salaries right here in
Cincinnati.
So, I'm basically writing because I can help. I'm primarily looking for
Java/J2EE people, that have a good knowledge of WebSphere, DB2, and
Rational tools. If you interviewed anyone in your story that might fit that
bill, please send them my way. Email is great, and my other contact
information is below.
Thank you,
--
