*If Malcolm Gladwell was your job search coach *
*he might tell you this?*
* *
*We?ll talk Tuesday!*
* *
* *
*Tuesday, June 23rd at 7 P.M.*
Through three bestselling books Malcolm Gladwell has articulated volumes of
information that would benefit any
job seeker or entrepreneur. This will be a great discussion. Don't let not
have read any or all of these stop you from attending.
In the *The Tipping Point : How Little Things Can Make A Big Difference*
Gladwell discusses *?the importance of connectors, mavens and salesmen,
small movements and *
*how little things grow into viral phenomena.?* We?ll see why *?weak ties
are stronger than strong ties*?
and ask if we each have a job search *?stickiness factor??* What about that
?*Six Degrees of Rod Steiger?*
instead of Kevin Bacon?? What about *?analysis paralysis??* Could that be a
factor in our current hiring market?
Lastly- what could we still learn from Sesame Street?
From *Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking *we can see how external
pressures can cause us
to take the perfect action seemingly without thought or sabotage our best
intentions and cause us to choke
or worse. We'll weigh the benefits or curse of instinct vs. intellect in
that snap judgments or over-analysis
can both lead to errors in the decision making process. What is this *?rapid
cognition?* that obsesses Gladwell?
Have you ever jumped to conclusions after just meeting someone for only
seconds? Were you right? Always?
In* Outliers: The Story of Success,* Gladwell defines the nuances that have
sculpted greats such as Bill Gates,
Steve Jobs, Bill Joy and the The Beatles. Bill Joy? So what does it take for
success? Is it great luck, great intelligence
or intense ambition and diligence? Nature or nurture? If it is a recipe of
all of these what are the proportions?
Does your background pay a personal dividend or demand a toll?
Don?t teeter too long in thinking about coming. Be an Outlier and take
action.
As usual, we will hit *Steak & Shake* when *Barnes & Noble* throws us out.
$timulus
*An open book and networking group for job seekers*

QUOTES:
"Practice isn't the thing you do once you're good. It's the thing you do
that makes you good."
Malcolm Gladwell (Outliers)
"In fact, researchers have settled on what they believe is the magic number
for true expertise: ten thousand hours."
Malcolm Gladwell (Outliers)
?Once a musician has enough ability to get into a top music school, the
thing that distinguishes one performer from
another is how hard he or she works. That's it. And what's more, the people
at the very top don't work just harder
or even much harder than everyone else. They work much, /much/ harder."
Malcolm Gladwell (Outliers)
