[jsfg_cinti] Idea

Hello, JSFG'ers
I have been on a temporary assignment for the last four months, and so have
been inactive in JSFG. I have made an employment proposal to the COO of the
company, and am hopeful that he will accept it; we'll see.
But I have not forgotten you. Back in the latter part of 2005 when I was
acive, I came up with an idea and shared it with the leadership. Of course,
with a transitional organization like JSFG, leaders change, and for this we are
thankful. In fact, of the 13 leadership positions listed, I recognize only
four names. So here is my idea, freshly presented.
If any of you has connections with any of the philanthropists in town, or the
philanthropic departments within our mega-corporations, I think they should be
approached with the proposition of endowing an administrative assistant
position within JSFG. An endowment of about $500,000 in perpetuity should
probably do it. The principal would never be touched, but the earnings
generated would be used to cover the salary and benefits of one full-time
office worker.
By creating and funding this position, JSFG would have continuity,
accountability and institutional memory. The details would have to be worked
out with the Church, but I see this person working 40 hours a week, perhaps
working on Saturdays, with Mondays off, since everybody else is in the office
on Mondays. There would still be a volunteer Office Manager (to whom the admin
would report) and office volunteers to work the present volunteer hours, but
this person would be there the total work day. The work the incumbent would
perform could be for any one of the 13 leaders.
Yes, there would be periods when the admin would not be very busy. But the
fact of continuity, knowing where everything is, knowing all the people to
coordinate with at the church, would be worth a little idle time. Besides,
when the person is there, the leadership will think of creative and productive
things for her to do.
Of course, the big thing is getting the endowment. I hope someone who has been
helped by JSFG along the way and is now in a position to help will run with
this idea.
Sincerely,
William A. "Bill" Jenny
