Dear Job Search Focus Group,
This is to let you all know that about six weeks ago I
started a new career. I wanted a position as an
industrial salesman. I had been calling out of town
manufacturers for a position. My sources were from
internet searches, exhibitor lists on trade show
websites, thomasregister.com, ReferenceUSA (which I
accessed from CincinnatiLibrary.org), some other
sources, and, last but not least, old newspaper job
ads I had saved (I'm a pack rat).
I would always get rejected or was asked if I wanted
to be a manufacturers' representative for them, which
means self-employment and all that entails. Being a
manufacturers' representative was always a dream of
mine, (my dad was a manufacturers' rep who worked out
of our home), but I didn't want to go to the expense
of living off of savings to start a business.
I called one more company about a job, because I still
had the card of the owner who I met on a sales call 22
years ago. (I told you I was a pack rat.) I always
thought it was an interesting company. There was a
new owner as of last spring, and he asked me if I
wanted to be a manufacturers' rep for them. They are
too small to hire a salesman.
I reasoned to myself that, no one else is hiring me,
and lots of companies are asking me to be a
manufacturers' rep, I know a lot about being a
manufacturers' rep, I know industrial sales, and I'm
living off of my savings anyway, SO... I'll go for it!
I hired myself!
I was forced into making my dream come true!
I know it will work if I consistently do the right
things and build my business, and I should start
making enough money before I have to sell my house.
And, I can work as many years as I want to without
being layed off or forced to retire.
So, don't give up. "God will do for you what you
cannot do for yourself!"
JSFG has been a really good thing for me. I
appreciate all of you. (Although, I found that being
a self-diagnosed AADD guy, I did have to watch for
getting unfocused by all the input from JSFG, and
other job search aids.)
Trust God. Stay close to God. Don't give up.
Thank you Job Search Focus Group, all of you are
talented and great individuals. As Brian Tracy says,
"Do not say anything about yourself that you do not
wish to be true."
I have graduated.
Sincerely,
Ron Freudenberg
