Over the last 6 months while conducting my job search, I found two areas for volunteering. 1. I volunteered at my alma mater, the University of Dayton, spending one hour a week with about 35 seniors, talking to them about the process of finding a job. (Networking, two minute intros, using the Internet, etc.) It was very rewarding but also helpful to me to keep the focus on my own efforts. So check some of the local colleges. I am sure they are open to needing help. 2. I also volunteered to do consulting through the Executive Services Corp. of Cincinnati. (ESCC provides low cost strategic consulting to not-for-profit agencies, that need help but can't afford to pay of consulting services. Typically this organization (like SCORE) is viewed as a place for retired executives to do consulting work. But my expereince is that it is open to people who are working or looking for work, and just want to help. Check them out at _www.esc-cincinnati.org_ (http://www.esc-cincinnati.org) While I was conducting my search it was very helpful to let the people I was meeting and networking with, know that I was occupied, and busy with giving back to my community, as well as looking for work. I hope to keep up my volunteering efforts even now that I have accepted a new position. More later. Good luck in your search.
