I suggest looking for volunteer opportunities that allow you to use the
skills of your chosen profession. Check with your church and with any
professional organizations you belong to. Also, there are many community
organizations that are in need of volunteers. It's a lot like a job
search: the need is there but it's up to you to find it.
Shameless plug: JSFG is always looking for volunteers; it's the nature
of our group. Talk with any of the Steering Committee members after a
general membership meeting. We would be happy to discuss volunteer
opportunities within JSFG.
Remember that the position itself is not as important as what you do
with it. As Jack said, "...be a leader, companies are looking for go
getters."
