[jsfg_cinti] Fwd: Open letter to JSFG from a new graduate, Jack Dwyer

Dear JSFG Members,

I am a recent graduate of JSFG and have truly been assisted by the
seminars and speakers. The tips on setting up my resume and handling
questions during the interview really helped me. As it turned out, I
lost a position by giving the wrong answer to my salary requirements.
The second week I joined JSFG, the correct answer was part of the
discussion, "too late smart." Keep the speakers coming; I was always
helped by their information. While I didn't directly find my current
systems analyst position through JSFG, it helped with my resume,
interview, and expense information for taxes. The 100 mile round trip
from Dayton was well worth it and I will recommend it to everyone here.

I have been doing some short term contract programming work. Some of
these contracts surfaced when specific openings occurred and I was
recommended by someone who knew of me. For me, networking was not a
quick fix but took over a year to produce results.

This new position is with a company doing consulting at Wright/Patterson
Air Force Base and includes full benefits. The salary is about 8% less
than my previous position and that probably reflects the state of the
economy.

My resume was found through another volunteer job search organization,
Day-VEST of Dayton. They are similar but have a different focus in
searching for positions. My recommendation is to research any and all
organizations available. Just beware of high priced search firms wanting
to do the same thing as JSFG.

Volunteering has been important to me by keeping busy and it filled the
void in my resume. Pick your organization and be a leader, companies are
looking for go getters. I had more than one comment made during
interviews and all were positive about keeping active.

Sincerely,

Jack Dwyer
