Subject: Take a day, make a difference in Cincinnati
Every year, Accounting for Kids Day gives local financial professionals a
chance to make a simple and small commitment to help Cincinnati's neediest
kids.
The day is organized by Accounting for Kids Inc., a nonprofit organization
started in Cincinnati in 2001 that has now gone statewide. Its mission:
introduce financial concepts to children in a fun and interactive manner;
inspire financial professionals to consider becoming a mentor or tutor for an
inner-city child; and encourage accounting and financial firms to "adopt" a
classroom by providing interaction with at-risk children on a regular basis.
Cincinnati finance and accounting professionals have led in the creation of
this nationally recognized program, which takes place for the fourth
consecutive year on Nov. 12.
This year's Accounting for Kids Day starts with light breakfast at the Courier,
followed by activities led by teams of finance professionals at various area
schools. The day ends with a 5-7 p.m. reception at the Bankers Club, featuring
guest speaker Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell.
Here's how you can help: A financial or time commitment helps organizers reach
as many students as possible. If you're not a finance professional, forward
this message on to those you know who are. A supplement in the Courier will
feature participating companies and individuals. For more information, contact
my colleague Cheryl Eckelman (513-621-6665 or ceckelman@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) or
Crystal Faulkner, Accounting for Kids Inc.'s primary organizer (513-768-6798 or
cfaulkner@xxxxxxxxxx).
I look forward to you or the finance professionals you know joining me in a
Cincinnati classroom Nov. 12.
