PRODUCT LINE MANAGEMENT
SUMMARY
Responsible for a broad range of product management needs, including product
development, bringing new products to market, planning and implementation of
major product initiatives, development of product training and expertise for
all sales distribution channels, and establishment of business processes for
product release.
Must be capable of performing responsibilities with minimal supervision. Must
rely on a breadth of knowledge and experience in areas of product capability
and technology, sales and marketing, communications skills, and business
process development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES and AUTHORITIES include the following.
Others may be assigned.
This position will have strategic and operational responsibilities. From a
strategic perspective, planning the future of product development efforts,
market share implications, product life cycle goals and possibilities. This
should be centered on three primary themes: Improve methods for new product
release into the market, increase market share, and improve Makino's
competitive position in the market. The Product Line Manager will have the
responsibility to implement and at times create these strategic plans.
A person in this role should be capable of strategic, long range planning with
leadership skills to integrate new strategies/plans at an operational level.
Must be able to assess the market for new product technology direction and make
recommendations to Senior Management.
Plan and direct the introduction of new product offerings to meet customer
needs, manage program budgets and reimbursement schedules with Makino Tokyo.
Determine strategies for pricing, configuration and promotion of products to
improve Makino's industry leadership position. Coordinate market research and
preparation of key statistics in support of products assigned including
competitive analysis. With the assistance of the Marketing Manager, VP Die Mold
and VP Production Machinery Group assess the company's preparedness to launch
new products, prepare training and effectiveness measurement criteria.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct operational staff responsible for sales information for the products
assigned to insure effective and coordinated presence in the field with direct
and distributor sales personnel. Focus will be on developing the highest
product expertise, while assisting sales during customer visits.
In an effort to champion the product internally and externally, must have
effective influence of internal and external constituents. Lead new product
initiatives through leadership of cross-functional teams, multidisciplinary
groups across Makino, including Makino affiliates and Makino Tokyo.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable

the essential functions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelors degree, preferably in Engineering and/or Marketing
Strong background and experience in a technical, capital equipment industry
Experience supervising managers, supervisors, and non-exempt employees. Breadth
of knowledge and experience in machine tool product management, sales and
marketing, service, business process development and good business intellect.
Proven ability to develop and implement major business initiatives
