Subject: [LinkedCincinnati] About Great Oaks
First off, I apologize in advance if you feel this message politicizes
LinkedIn. That's not my intention, even though it's about Great Oaks Institute
of Technology and Career Development, which has a renewal levy on the ballot
next week.
I'm finding that some people are unfamiliar with the work of Great Oaks, so my
hope is just that people will be able to make a better informed decision as
they vote.
Great Oaks is the public vocational, career/technical school serving 36 school
districts in southwest Ohio with four campuses-Diamond Oaks (Dent), Laurel Oaks
(Wilmington), Live Oaks (Milford), and Scarlet Oaks (Sharonville). About 8,000
high school students each year prepare for careers through 42 different
programs. While most people think of vocational students as non-college-bound,
actually about half of Great Oaks grads go directly to college.
Great Oaks graduates are firefighters, bankers, nurses, horse trainers,
engineers, business owners, graphic designers, heavy equipment operators,
police officers, etc.
The ballot issue is a 2.7-mill, 10-year renewal. It would renew the current
2.7-mill levy which expires in 2009. Since it's a renewal, homeowners would
pay exactly the same rate they have since 1988-so it will not increase taxes.
If you need more information about Great Oaks or this issue, go to
greatoaks.com or contact me. Thanks!
