[jsfg_cinti] Fw: Don't let President Bush forget the jobless!

If you care to, please sign the letter at this link:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  Dear Unemployedworkers.org Action Network Members,

As you know, joblessness is still front-page news and the topic of heated
debate by the nation's leaders. Still, with all of the talk about the future of
the job market and how unemployment will influence elections, America's jobless
workers remain largely forgotten.

Now is a crucial time to raise the voices of unemployed workers. In Congress,
the debate is heating up once again over the future of the federal unemployment
benefits program. So please sign a letter calling on President Bush and
Congressional leaders to take action to help unemployed workers by expanding
the federal extension of unemployment benefits before the entire program
expires on December 31st. No later than October 19th, please complete the
on-line form and help us spread the word to generate more support for this
critical program.

If no action is taken by Congress in the next several weeks (Congress is
officially scheduled to recess on October 31st for the rest of year, but they
may keep working until Thanksgiving), the nation's lawmakers could end up
leaving town for the holidays without continuing the extended benefits program.
It happened last year, and it could happen again!

The looming deadline gives us our best chance to expand the extended benefits
program to help those of you have exhausted benefits - and it's also an
opportunity to call attention to other key issues that you have raised in your
e-mails to our UnemployedWorkers.org website.

To help bring the voices of unemployed workers to the President and Congress,
UnemployedWorkers.org is circulating the letter to be signed by jobless workers
across the country. It calls for more weeks of unemployment benefits as well as
other forms of assistance to unemployed workers. When we send the letter to the
President and Congressional leaders, it will also provide an opportunity to
bring media attention to the crisis facing today's jobless workers.

As Congress debates the extension of unemployment benefits, your active
involvement can make a major difference. Here's how you can help.

Read the sign-on letter and add your name by following this link:
http://action.nelp.org/ctt.asp?u=169571&l=5996.

The more unemployed workers who sign on, the more powerful the message we
send to our nation's lawmakers. Our goal is to have more than 1,000 signatures
of jobless workers. To help reach our goal by October 19th, please forward the
link to the letter to other jobless workers that you know, and any helpful
organizations that can help circulate the letter:

Sign up to be an unemployedworkers.org media contact, by filling out the
"story" form in the unemployedworkers.org worker forum at
http://action.nelp.org/ctt.asp?u=169571&l=5997. Reporters are calling us to
speak with jobless workers - your voice can help shine a light on the need for
federal action for the unemployed. You can add more thoughts not covered in the
letter to your submission.

  Sincerely,

  The National Employment Law Project
