POSITIONS OPEN AT CONTEMPORARY ARTS CENTER
Founded in 1939 and located in the Pritzker Prize winning architect, Zaha
Hadid's first American public commission, the CAC produces a balanced and
active exhibition program of new media, historical perspectives,
comprehensive surveys, topical themes, popular exhibitions, innovative
projects, and challenging content.  The Contemporary Arts Center, one of the
first and foremost non-collecting contemporary museums in the country, seeks
exceptional candidates for the following positions:
1) Director of External Affairs
2) Senior Curator
3) Curator of Education

1) The Director of External Affairs reports directly to the Director of the
Contemporary Arts Center and works closely with the Board of Trustees.  The
Director of External Affairs will be responsible for fund raising, marketing
and public relations.  The ideal candidate will have highly developed
management ability, a proven track record in fundraising and communications,
specifically, the identification and cultivation of high-level individuals
for major gifts and planned gifts, as well as creative marketing ventures.
The Director of External Affairs manages the Development, Marketing and
Public Relations departments.

The successful candidate will have an arts background and previous
non-profit experience with an advanced degree and 7-10 years of
progressively responsible experience, including three at the
leadership/management level.  S/he will have a knowledge of resource
development techniques and donor cultivation/relationship management
strategy; experience organizing and managing capital and/or endowment
campaigns; superior verbal and written communication skills and the ability
to communicate effectively with a diverse set of audiences; a broad
knowledge of communications and marketing theory; demonstrated success in
designing and implementing strategies to reach new audiences, and to
increase constituency commitment, involvement and support; and experience
using electronic media to market ideas, products and/or organizations.

2) The Senior Curator oversees all aspects of exhibition planning, research,
and implementation.  Reporting to the Director, the Senior Curator proposes
the long-term plan for exhibitions and related programs consistent with the
CAC's mission.  The Senior Curator supervises the Curatorial, Exhibition and
Education departments.  Additionally, as a senior manager at the CAC, the
position requires staff and budget supervision, and active participation in
fundraising and public relations.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of exhibitions and
publications, and a strong relationship with the contemporary art community,
both nationally and internationally.  Applicants should have an advanced
degree in a related field and/or equivalent curatorial experience.  S/he
should enjoy a collaborative environment, possess strong written and verbal
communication skills, and have a demonstrated history of adventuresome
programming of critical and intellectual value.

3) The Curator of Education has full responsibility for planning and
implementing all Center education programs for adults, children and
families; develops and oversees the education budget, philosophy and long
range plans; supervises two full time assistant curators of education and
contract education staff; and works with development and marketing staff in
fundraising and community relations to promote the interests of the
education program. The Curator of Education reports to the Senior Curator.

The position requires a minimum of five years of education experience in an
art museum and a thorough knowledge of museum education practices. The ideal
Curator of Education has a Masters Degree in Art History, Museum Studies or
Art Education, with substantial knowledge of modern and contemporary art.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience
with teaching, managing volunteers, grant-writing, publications, budgets and
museum administration.
