              Dear Friends,

Congressmen Rangel (D-NY) and McDermott (D-WA), and Senator Reed
(D-RI), have introduced legislation (S. 3506/H.R.6867) that would go a long
way to help the 800,000 workers now scheduled to run out of their limited
13-week extension of unemployment benefits by October 5th. The proposal, which
is needed now more than ever given the crashing economy, would extend
unemployment benefits in all states by an additional 7 weeks, and provide a
further 13 week extension for states with particularly high unemployment (with
unemployment rates over 6 percent).

We know how desperately needed these benefits are. Now your
Congressmembers and Senators need to hear from you as well. They need to know
that real people are suffering in todayâ??s economy, through no fault of their
own. They need to know that you, your family, friends and neighbors are
counting on them to do the right thing â?? to support a further extension of
benefits and to do so before the Congress leaves for its recess in the next two
weeks.

So please call your members of Congress TODAY - 1-800 245-0215 -
and ask to speak to your members of Congress, especially in states with high
unemployment. Tell them that they should not leave for recess at the end of
the month without passing legislation to extend unemployment benefits for the
millions of Americans struggling to find jobs in this economy. (NELP thanks
the Coalition on Human Needs for allowing us to use their toll free number.)

And please forward this to colleagues, friends and family, asking
them to do the same.

              Sincerely and gratefully,

              National Employment Law Project
