DIVISION OF INFORMATION RESOURCES - DESKTOP SECURITY ADMINISTRATOR

Xavier University invites applications for the position of Desktop
Security Administrator. This position reports to the Assistant Director
for User Support Services and serves as a member of the desktop support
team in the Discovery Services department.
The Desktop Security Administrator (DSA) oversees the PC management and
desktop security for the University's faculty and staff computer
workstations and the Xavier student laptop program, coordinates the
deployment of desktop security and enterprise software installations and
acts as a level two technical escalation resource for all service calls
for Xavier computer systems and software applications.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversees desktop security on campus
Provides security management and oversight for University desktop and
laptop computers; develops, implements and administers desktop security
policies, practices, standards and programs; coordinates the creation
and maintenance of policies for desktop anti-virus, host intrusion
protection and desktop firewalls; creates scripts and command files for
automating desktop procedures; and designs response procedures for
significant security incidents involving end user computers.
Provides desktop and level two client support
Oversees desktop image configurations, developing highly supportable
configurations for end user operating systems; responsible for remote
application maintenance (install, modify and uninstall applications);
acts as the technical escalation resource (level 2) for all service
calls for Xavier computer systems and software applications; provides
platform support for asset management and help desk functions; assists
with annual computer life-cycle replacement and deployment activities;
and provides advanced technology consulting to the faculty and staff of
the University.
Creates technical training content for Discovery Services colleagues and
University user groups, working with the Discovery Services training
team
Assists with the technical training for the staff of Discovery Services;
monitors and contributes to the Discovery Services' knowledge bank
database; and develops training documentation for Discovery services
staff and the University user community, including best practice
recommendations.
Qualifications: bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information
Systems or related field and at least two years experience in desktop
security and enterprise software support or an equivalent combination of
education and experience; detailed knowledge and experience in PC
hardware and software support; a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows
XP/Vista and Macintosh operating systems, Active Directory,
Outlook/Exchange configurations, MS Office, McAfee Anti-virus, Ghost and
the configuration of network printers; good organizational,
communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate
diverse activities; experience planning and scheduling migration,
upgrade, or implementation initiatives; demonstrated experience with
image creation, deployment, and structured maintenance procedures, and
the development and documentation of structured maintenance procedures;
and experience assisting users with the integration of information
technology into their work environments, both administrative and
academic.
Preferred qualifications: experience working in a college or university;
advanced skills in Microsoft networking, file services, active
directory, and group policy; and experience with Oracle, DNS, DHCP,
TCP/IP and network domain configurations in a WAN/LAN environment.
