Subject: Wednesday Action - Ohio Call In Day

Action Alert - Call Wednesday, March 31, 2004

=20

Now that we=92ve collected the signatures to the letter to Senators
Voinovich and Dewine from Ohio unemployed, we want to amplify the
message with a day of targeted phone calls to their offices.

=20

Several of you have written back wanting to emphasize how Senator
Voinovich has been supportive. Indeed, just today he introduced S. 2250
with Senators Cantwell and Kennedy. Indeed, he has been very out front
on the issue. Calls to his office should be grateful for his support so
far and inquiring about what the Senator will do to quickly enact his
bill. The call in day is tomorrow, Wednesday March 31st 2004 =96

=20

Participants in the sign-on letter only can use the following toll free
phone number to reach Senators DeWine and Voinovich through the Capitol
Switchboard: # 1-877-331-1224.=20

=20

1. Try to get past the receptionist and ask to speak to the Senator's
staffer who handles unemployment issues. Leave a detailed message and
phone number (see below) with the staffer if you get their voice mail.
We are told that the contact person for Senator DeWine is Mary Beth
Luna.=20

=20

2. Tell the staffer that you are calling because you are unemployed,
which is why the federal extension is so important to you and your
family. Try to tell the staffer some of your story, including where you
live, where you worked, how long you have been unemployed, how hard it
is to find a job, how your family is getting by since you lost your job,
why the extra unemployment benefits are so important. =20

=20

3. To Senator Voinovich's staffer, say: "I'm calling to say thank you to
Senator Voinovich for voting for the federal extension of unemployment
benefits on February 27, 2003, and co-sponsoring S.2250, the new bill to
provide another 13 weeks of benefits to Ohio's workers.=94 To Senator
DeWine's staffer, say: I'm calling to say thank you to Senator DeWine
for voting for the federal extension of unemployment benefits on
February 27th. =93We urge the Senator to now also sponsor S. 2250,
providing 13 weeks of benefits to Ohio's workers, no less, and urge the
Senate leadership to support the bill."

=20

4. Then Ask =93What is Senator Voinovich/DeWine doing to make sure that
these benefits are re-activated soon.=94 Emphasize how long we=92ve been
waiting.=20

=20

We=92re curious to hear how the calls go =96 so if you=92d like to =
report send
an e-mail to info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx =20
