POSITION TITLE:   Associate Scientist

TARGET WAGES:   $39,563-$49,454                  Exempt



RESPONSIBILITIES:   Responsible for polymer/compound rheology and film
morphology evaluation for material research and new product development.

·          Primarily responsible for testing, maintenance and related
activities involving rheological evaluations, SEM evaluations, and physical
testing methods.

·          Supports qualification and ongoing improvement of resin vendors
and engraved roll suppliers.  Supports Purchasing and Operations in these
areas.  This would require direct contact with technical personnel at our
vendors and direct interaction with the Purchasing and Operations groups.

·          Conduct raw material analysis to support R&D and Global quality
initiatives.

·          Conducts specific projects related to development effort; direct
interaction with Research Associates to oversee and give guidance to the
project.

·          Ensures the precision and accuracy of the data generated in the
testing areas specified.  Maintains the equipment and upgrades where needed.

·          Keeps abreast of emerging technology in the testing areas
specified.

·          Trains others in the testing methods involved when needed, both
at the Technical Center and at our suppliers and plants.

·          Employee shall contribute in the research and development of new
products and the improvement of existing products, as part of Employee's
regular scope of duties. Product research and development typically takes
place in a team context, and often includes multiple employees from multiple
Clopay facilities working on a given research and development project.
Employee shall cooperate with the Company and its affiliates in the
documentation, protection, and commercialization of such research and
developments to the extent requested by the Company including patent
applications.



REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a sophisticated
skill to operate the rheometer and scanning election microscope, understand
the rheology and morphology.

·          Bachelor of Science degree

·          Minimum of 1-3 years experience in evaluation and testing.
Demonstrated ability to conduct project work with minimum supervision and
input.

·          Demonstrated experience with computers interfaced with laboratory
testing equipment and various type of physical testing equipment.
Experience with MS office applications (Excel, Word) is desirable.

·          Ability to read and interpret requests for testing, safety rules,
operation, maintenance or test procedures, material safety data sheets.

·          Demonstrated excellent communication skills: ability to clearly
describe the scientific results and write reports and communicate the
findings with suggestions to support the project.   Ability to describe
observations with scientific and analytical approaches.   Excellent
communication with internal (CPPC Management, purchasing, coworkers) and
external (vendors, supplies, engineering/trade organizations) customers.

·          Creativity and innovation: the ideal candidate will have an
established record of creative and innovative solutions to technical
problems.

·          Frequently operates physical testing equipment which requires
fine manual manipulation to prepare and install the test samples and test
fixtures.  Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision.
The employee is regularly required to stand and/or sit while operating the
various pieces of physical test equipment.
