JOB TITLE:       Science Central Coordinator

JOB LOCATION: Boonshoft Museum of Discovery

WORK HOURS:       As assigned, within the limitations of the department?s FT
salary budget not to exceed 40 hours per week ? Tuesday through Saturday
work schedule as an exempt employee.

EDUCATION:       Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry, physics, or
related field.

REPORTS TO:       Director of Education (DOE) and Assistant Director of
Education (ADOE)

This position requires outstanding customer service skills, ability to
interact with the general public, excellent oral communication skills,
excellent time-management skills, and close attention to detail.  The
successful candidate will be dependable, responsible, enjoy working with and
teaching children, and able to work independently.

DUTIES:

  a.. Develop and deliver school and public programming in Science Central,
Science Theatre, Do-Lab, and through Internet and Distance Learning.
    a.. Make sure all Science Central programs are covered with part-time
teachers and volunteers as needed. This includes but is not limited to
materials acquisition, receiving and orienting groups, program delivery, and
clean-up/recovery, training and supervision of new staff and volunteers.
    b.. Deliver public programs for walk-in visitation during the week and
weekend. This includes activity development, materials acquisition,
receiving and orienting groups, working with guest services, marketing and
graphics to ensure notification of the public, program delivery, tracking
visitation and clean-up/recovery.
    c.. Keep school programming up-to-date with current national and Ohio
standards.
  b.. Demonstrate and maintain safe practices.
  c.. Develop and implement pre and post materials for educators for school
programs.
  d.. Create print materials that maximize learning experiences relevant to
content areas. Give one copy of all print material to DOE and ADOE.
  e.. Be able to work with students of all ages, volunteers, visiting
teachers, and staff.
  f.. Maintain inventory supplies/equipment needed for activities that
maximize learning experiences relevant to content, including preparation of
chemical solutions, and maintenance of demonstration equipment.
  g.. Develop support materials for temporary exhibits.
  h.. Work collaboratively with Exhibits Manager to ensure repair and upkeep
of exhibit components, as well as, new component development when funds
allow.
  i.. Maintain Science Central Gallery by ensuring exhibit materials are
well stocked and in working order. Periodically walk through the gallery and
straighten and restock as needed.
  j.. Work closely with DOE and ADOE and other staff. Assist in additional
tasks as needed.
  k.. Maintain safe, attractive and efficient office, classroom, and gallery
spaces.
  l.. Organize and maintain office area, records, training materials, and
inventory.
  m.. Operate within budget approved by the Board of Trustees.

JOB TITLE:       Program Instructor - Birthday Parties, Overnights, and
Scout Programs

JOB LOCATION: Boonshoft Museum of Discovery

WORK HOURS:       As assigned, within the limitations of the department?s PT
salary budget not to exceed 19 hours per week ? typically Friday, Saturday,
and/or Sunday.

EDUCATION:       Background in Science or Environmental Education required.

REPORTS TO:       Director of Education (DOE) and Assistant Director of
Education (ADOE)

This position requires outstanding customer service skills, ability to
interact with the general public, good oral communication skills, excellent
time-management skills, and close attention to detail.  The successful
candidate will be dependable, responsible, able to work independently, and
will enjoy working with and teaching children.

DUTIES:

  a.. Deliver Physical Sciences and Life Sciences programs according to each
coordinator?s specifications. This includes but is not limited to materials
acquisition, receiving and orienting groups, program delivery,
clean-up/recovery, and supervision of volunteers.
  b.. Supervise floor activity during self-guided visitation. This includes
ensuring safe and appropriate visitor behavior, and straightening and
maintaining loose exhibit parts.
  c.. Birthdays:
    a.. Pick up information in advance
    b.. Prepare party ? prepare room, set up and wipe off tables and chairs
if necessary, set out materials for activities, and make sure that snacks
and cake are ready to be served.
    c.. Deliver birthday program scheduled (if program requires the use of
animals, training with the Boonshoft Animal department is required)
    d.. Collect extra fees from additional participants
    e.. Leave room clean and orderly. This includes wiping off tables,
sweeping the floor and emptying the trash.
    f.. Notify birthday coordinator if supplies are low or equipment is in
need of repair.
  d.. Overnights: Facilitate and/or deliver program ? hours are 6pm on
Friday night until 7:30am on Sunday morning
    a.. Get schedule from registration office
    b.. Help set up before the overnight begins.  This includes opening up
classrooms and setting up tables, making sure the Education Lobby is empty,
making sure all lights and areas are open for self-guide time, and taping
off the emergency exits on the Education Lobby floor. Set-up the classroom
with cups, plates, napkins, and juice.
    c.. Prepare materials for program delivery
    d.. Greet group and go over rules
    e.. Assist group in following the program schedule
    f.. Deliver programming
    g.. Help with cleaning up the museum while the guests are in the laser
show from 8-9pm.  This includes picking up loose items, sweeping the dig
pit, restocking materials, and anything else necessary to return museum to
its pre-visit condition.
    h.. Maintain secure/safe/controlled environment at all times.
    i.. Hand out and collect evaluations
    j.. Ensure clean up by all participants to restore building to its
original order.
    k.. Ensure all participants depart by 7:30am.
    l.. Notify overnight coordinator if supplies are low or equipment is in
need of repair.
  e.. Scouts:
    a.. Receive schedule from registration office
    b.. Check with scout leader to determine needs and desired activities in
advance
    c.. Prepare materials for program delivery
    d.. Deliver program
  f.. Work closely with DOE, ADOE, program coordinator and other staff.
Assist in additional tasks as needed.
  g.. Maintain safe, attractive and efficient classroom and gallery spaces.
  h.. Organize and maintain office areas classrooms, records, training
materials, and inventory.
  i.. Operate within budget approved by the Board of Trustees.
