BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEWING:
HOW TELLING STORIES FROM YOUR PAST CAN ENSURE YOUR FUTURE
During an interview, have you ever been asked a question that began with
"Tell me about a time when you...". If you have, you were in what's known as
a Behavioral Interview. The premise of a Behavioral Interview is that past
behavior predicts future behavior. The interviewer will want you to dive
into your past and come up with concrete examples - stories - of past
behavior that demonstrates some trait, skill, or quality the interviewer is
looking for.
Walk into a Behavioral Interview unprepared, and you are toast. But if you
take the time to prepare well, the Behavioral Interview will be an
opportunity for you to project the image you want, as well as find out more
about the company and the position.
Jane Steinmetz, a career coach and work satisfaction specialist, will
conduct a three-hour workshop to prepare you for Behavioral Interviews.
During the workshop, you'll learn techniques for recognizing and effectively
communicating the value of your past work experiences. You'll begin to
categorize your experiences so that you can use the same story to highlight
very different skills or accomplishments. In addition, you'll learn the
hidden value of listening during a Behavioral Interview.
DATE/TIME: Tuesday, February 17, 1:00 to 4:00 pm
LOCATION: Room 303, Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church
COST: $20.00, payable by cash or check to Jane Steinmetz at the door.
REGISTRATION: To register, please e-mail Jane Steinmetz directly at
jane@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
NOTE: Enrollment is limited. Pre-registration is required.
Jane Steinmetz is the President of Splendid Work. She delivers training and
