[jsfg_cinti] August 2004 Giveaway

When an employer asks what you've been doing while you were out of work,
how do you respond? Here's a good answer: volunteering!

When you're feeling down, how do you raise your spirits? Here's a good
answer: volunteering!

We ask each of you to contribute six hours of your time to JSFG each
month. If you do that for us, we'll give you a shot at something that
will help your job search in other ways. For the next five weeks, each
member who meets that goal will be eligible to enter a drawing for a
12-week Precision Career Series membership. This prize is the generous
donation of Scott Henderson, President of ProTrain.

The Precision Career Series is a new program from True North Career
Services, a service of ProTrain. The series includes 12 training
sessions on the ABC's of a successful job search and 12 weekly small
group coaching sessions.

Here are some of the things you need to know:

* You must serve as a JSFG volunteer for a minimum of six hours between
now and Friday, September 3rd inclusive.

* You are eligible to receive one entry for each six-hour block of
volunteer work completed.

* Multiple activities may be used to create a six-hour block. Time will
be recorded in thirty-minute increments.

* Entry is NOT automatic. You must request and complete a separate card
for each entry.

* Each activity must be recorded on an official entry card.

* Entry cards are available in the office, and will also be available in
the Refectory before and after general membership meetings.

* Completed entry cards must be deposited in the Official Giveaway Entry
Box, which will be kept in the office during office hours, and will also
be available in the Refectory before and after general membership meetings.

* You need not be present to win.

* The winner of the giveaway will be determined by a drawing to be held
on Tuesday, September 7th, at the general membership meeting.

* To enter the giveaway, you must read and accept the official rules.
The complete rules are printed on the back of the entry cards.

What qualifies as "serving as a volunteer"?

* JSFG general membership meetings, training classes, workshops,
seminars, and social gatherings are membership benefits. The time spent
attending such activities will not be counted toward eligibility;
however, the time spent organizing and conducting such activities is
eligible for inclusion.

* For example, attendance at the Java classes does not count but writing
code for Jobservatory does.

* Here's another example: Signing up as an office volunteer does not
count; however working in the office does. Be aware that only two
volunteers are needed to staff each shift in the office. Volunteers in
excess of that number are not eligible for credit.

What are you waiting for? Volunteer now!
