I believe anything that helps people do their job or job search more
effectively, save money during their job search, or teach them something
that may help in future business situations has value and is acceptable for
this forum. With that in mind, I agree that Bill's original question was on
the fence of acceptable postings. Because I realized the repercussions of
his question, my solution was to reply directly to him (with the answer)
rather than drag everyone in on the back-and-forth. Perhaps everyone should
thoroughly investigate the use the Reply vs. Reply to All button.
As for the Excel substitute issue. Here is my analogy - no matter your
commute to work you could ride a bicycle. It will get you there but it may
not be the best tool and it is certainly not the standard for most
commuters. I am an IT professional and as such, I chose to invest in the
best tools which will allow me to do my job in the most effective manner.

I've been reading these Bill Matthews/Excel emails all week with some
amusement. I think the previous three emails were very informative and
well-intentioned, but don't they violate the JSFG FAQ for use of the
Listserv? Allowable content:
- Job postings
- Other job tips
- Tips on interviewing.
- Advice on resume writing.
- Requests for company contact information.
- Other requests for help with the job search.
- Short quotes from articles about businesses of interest to JSFG members.
- Short quotes from articles about the economy.
- Short quotes from articles about the job market.
- Other information about the job search
I'm just playing devil's advocate, but I'm anxious to see how many members
complain about these three posts.
Dave

I think it is supposed to be able to read and process Excel spreadsheets
that were created in Excel. It looks pretty impressive to me, although I
have not really dug into it extensively.
