Andrea?s Job Search Tip:
It may seem smart to spend all your time applying for openings you hear
about in ads or through headhunters. But here?s why it?s not:
* Most jobs aren?t listed anywhere.
* You?re one of hundreds of job hunters responding to a posted opening.
* You have little control over your job search when you merely respond to
openings. Maybe you get a call, maybe you don?t.
* You?re basically acting as if you?re willing to take what you can get,
instead of creating or digging up a position you really want.
* The job you?re perfect for may not have been created in a company yet.
If you want to find the majority of jobs, get a jump on others, find out
who?s hiring and who could use your skills and be in control of your search,
you need to also get acquainted with professional organizations in your
field and the decision makers in your targeted area. That means you have to
research, write and call up strangers and meet with them so they know you
exist. Even if they don?t need you at this very moment, they?ll know where
to find you when they do.
