Unemployment should stop, but could be resumed when the contract ends - I
believe everyone's maximum is 26 weeks currently but I don't know the
details about restarting or "refreshing" your unemployment benefits.
Taking a "contract" position should not be viewed negatively - you are going
into business for yourself! You are the boss and the employee. My wife has
been a contractor for many years. We file taxes quarterly; Federal, State,
and because some of the work is done in the City of Cincinnati, local
payroll taxes. The Federal taxes should include Social Security (FICA).
Initially, estimate high, then adjust as needed.

Good Luck,
Mike E
