Dear JSFG Subscribers;
My personal apology for needing to again message you on this issue - but
please take the time read this message through.
Many of you have contacted me to express your views concerning the
recent rash of messages distributed over the JSFG broadcast email service.
From past Presidents of 10+ years ago, to sponsors, employers, speakers and
trainers, and of course the reason for our being... from members. The cross
section of people subscribed to our service has amazed, impressed and
humbled me. For those who contacted me rather then taking up the time of all
subscribers I thank you. And I thank you for your interest and continued
support of JSFG - we appreciate you sticking with us!
Worry over the image of the JSFG organization and brand, and the perception
of its members being bruised has been the largest recurring theme. I share
that concern deeply. So I ask each subscriber to give serious and considered
thought to these points:
1. 99.999% of the subscribers and message authors are well
intentioned and use the service as it was designed - abiding by the spirit
of our standards and rules of use
00.001% of the message authors do not
Please do not judge the vast majority by the behavior of the tiny
minority. Let's spotlight & appreciate the deserving majority - - please.
2. Accountability & responsibility - when you judge, please judge based
on who is accountable and responsible:
a. JSFG the organization provides the service - or "vehicle" - to
connect those in need with those having opportunity
If the service is defective, I am accountable, and responsible
for consequences & resolution. I want to hear from you directly when this
occurs - thank you
Please judge me on the performance of the "vehicle"
b. If the content is defective ask who is accountable for it? It is
the author. And if you are compelled to offer feedback to the
content, please offer feedback directly to the author...
only the author can ultimately decide if she or he will step up
to their accountability and assume responsibility for their actions
Judge the author on the adequacy of the message and
appropriateness of the content
I and the JSFG organization will continue to take responsibility for that
which we have accountability for. We are responsible. And we will work our
hearts out to serve our mission "...to support programs to those seeking
career opportunities and to employers looking to fill positions" We are
accountable and responsible for this and proud of our behavior.
The remaining question: will authors be accountable and accept their
responsibility? Neither I nor JSFG can answer that.
I wish I could promise you that I will never have to take up your precious
time on this again - but that promise sits in the hands of those who author
messages.
Thank You for your time and considered judgement
Best Regards,
-Bob
Dear Authors;
You are accountable.... you are responsible for the messages you author and
distribute
The vast majority of you have acted properly and can be proud of your
conduct - you should hold your head tall. You need not read further.
If you have doubt or if you are already blaming someone else - look in the
mirror. Be honest.
If you are in the tiny minority - stop being tiny - it is in your power to
become accountable, responsible and a positive force in support of the JSFG
mission. I invite you back.
If you want to change the standards and rules you will have far greater
success doing so in others ways then inappropriately taking up the time and
patience of the 99.999%
For the 99.99%, I applaud your actions. For the tiny .00.01% please modify
your behavior - and I promise to applaud that!
If you care to dispute, comment or offer suggestions, please do so directly
to me.
Good Evening
-Bob
