Survey: U.S. Employers to Continue Hiring Pace in
Second Quarter
Milwaukee -- March 15
U.S. employers show no signs of changing their healthy
hiring pace in the second quarter of 2006, according
to the seasonally adjusted results of the latest
Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, conducted
quarterly by Manpower Inc.
â??The U.S. job market has been growing at a safe,
incremental pace in recent years, and Manpowerâ??s
survey data highlights the comfort zone that has
emerged from this climate. Employers have reported
similar levels of hiring for nine quarters now, which
tells us that they are not willing to throw off the
equilibrium with radical shifts in hiring,â?? said
Jeffrey A. Joerres, Chairman & CEO of Manpower Inc.
Of the 16,000 U.S. employers surveyed, 30% foresee an
increase in hiring activity for the second quarter of
2006, while 6% expect a reduction in payrolls.
Fifty-eight percent report no change in hiring plans,
and 6% have yet to determine their staffing needs.

The hiring outlook for the U.S. regions is the mirror
image of the first quarter projections. Staffing plans
for the Northeast, Midwest, South and West are all
expected to remain consistent through June of 2006.
