sounds much to me like your external drive can't feed the texture files in
fast enough..

But running it from an external, USB drive, will detract from
performance. I think this option was raised, and dismissed, on the
Horizon Forum.

To be honest, I have not noticed any performance hit, I am still getting the

same FR's with or without Horizon loaded(50-100plus, but locked to 50 as I 
get a slight hiccup when crossing a tile to tile, or panning too quick. This

with the sliders on dense.

And it does save nearly 80gigs on my hard drive.
