?Try checking on the NFB website and the braille monitor. I know they wrote
something about it, but I haven't heard much in a while. BTW, have anyone heard
about the google settlement?

The accessibility problem that was the subject of several settlements wasn't
about Kindle's text-to-speech capacity, which I believe was always there, but
the lack of any sound prompts to take you to the item you want to read. In
other words, it was nearly impossible to navigate. This is what Amazon promised
to fix. Gary King reported on this list that he has heard Amazon has made
improvements, but I've read nothing concrete so far.

There was a Kindle that was out about a year and a half ago that would read the
text aloud. Apparently the recorded books industry got snippy about that and
Amazon started allowing them to opt out, and I think they may have taken the
capability out of their next generation. But I do not know which generation
that was. My brother got one and loved the text to speech feature. But if it's
only going to work with half the books, that's probably not worth it.
