Hi: you should set the auto update to ask you still about the update
specifically because of video and stuff like that. I have my auto update =
set
to download and ask me to install. This way I can take jaws off and =
put
video stuff on an then put jaws back.=20

I just want to report that the same thing happened to me yesterday. I=20
wasn't able to use Narrator with any skill at all, so I had to wait for =
a=20
sighted friend to come by after work, uninstall the new video driver, =
and=20
reinstall Jaws (a Jaws repair, which I directed him to do first, didn't=20
restore Jaws to functionality).

What I'd like to know is, I thought the auto update feature restricted=20
itself to providing only what Microsoft regards as critical =
security-related

updates and patches. Isn't that so? Then what gives with them laying =
this=20
video deal on us, unrequested? I much prefer using the auto update =
feature=20
to having to learn my way around the update page and learning how to=20
distinguish all the available updates one from another in terms of their =

desirability, and in about six months with this new computer running =
under=20
XP Home, nothing like this has yet happened. But is it liable to happen =

periodically? I'm unpleasantly surprised by this one, that's for sure.

Hi Steve,

It is hitting all Dell computers. Microsoft Update is sending a video
display driver update, redefining how the video resolution is set. JAWS
doesn't like that. I've turned off Automatic Updates before it arrives
here, but it affected my wife's computer at home last night. I did a =
System
Restore to go back the prior day and then told JAWS to update the video
intercept. It worked. You will need Narrator if you cannot see the =
screen.

Francis
