Hi Dave,
I think she isn't interested in following the system in that way.  She just 
wants this to look like a proper manuscript for her purpose, which doesn't 
involve stepped headings in a system like the one Word offers.  But that's a 
nice idea when it's what someone wants for headings.  This is simpler, and 
uniform.
