touch screens

Hello all,

I heard an article in New Scientist a short while back. It was on touch
screens, and explained their might be problems on the horizon.

They at presently use a compound containing Tin and Indium. It is the element
Indium that is rather rare, estimated availability of 16,000 tons left on
planet Earth. There might not be enough for a new revolution.

The tin/Indium compound is just at the limit of conductance for the screen to
work. Their are other compounds that are better, with respect to conductance,
however they are not as transparent as the Tin/Indium. Of course, research is
furiously taking place to find another compound meeting the conductance and
transparency specifications, made of elements that are not so rare as Indium.

Who knows how much Indium is actually here, it was an estimate. Am I being
selfish in hoping there is not enough for a revolution, and that the search for
a replacement is as elusive as the Holy Grail?

Paul Benson.

Subject: touch screens

The touch screens are worse than a mouse ever cold be. As it is we have
difficulty communicatinjg with the sighted people on the computer.

? Maybe is the memory. I use jaws 12 with a hp elite book notebook with 4GB
of RAM (actually win 7 only uses 3 because it is 32 bit) and jaws 12. Also,
try IE 9. It is lighter and less resorce comsumming. It is in beta form and
I suggest you switch to compatibility view for all pages.

Cindy: With my XP 512 MB machine I experience what you describe,
   especially
after being in an IE 8 session for awhile. In fact, IE 8 and jaws 12
   often
   get quite clunky after awhile.

I have wondered if jaws 12 demands more resources than jaws 11 and my 512
   MB
machine just can't adequately power it.

Firefox works much better than IE 8 for me.

   Subject: Annoying JAWS 12 problem

Since I installed JAWS 12 on my computer, I have to wait up to 30 seconds
before a web page will start to read. I'm assuming the page is there,
   but
JAWS is silent. I often control tab around, several times, before I hear
JAWS say anything. Is there anything I can do about this?
