Yardbird, As I said before when I first upgraded over the weekend this
doesn't take care of it for me, I too always do it when I upgrade.
Cheers.

Aha! There's another one of those obvious things that never occurred to me
because, well, I learned it the first time I upgraded to a new version of
Jaws and figured out that when I tried to assign the familiar control alt J
key combo to be the hotkey, the dialogue wasn't accepting it because that
was assigned already to the earlier version.

Now, what I did, and still do, is just go into properties for that shortcut
assigned to the version I'm upgrading from, and just delete the stuff in the
hotkey input field. That is all you have to do. You don't have to actually
find and delete something. Just delete what's in that field, click okay to
exit, and then open the properties dialogue for your Jaws 8 icon or programs
list item, and type the "j" or press control alt j in that input field,
click OK, and you should be good to go..

I hope someone finally says that this takes care of it for them. Trouble
is, you can never figure out sometimes what someone isn't understanding
about something like this. At least I can't.

I have no problem.
I first deleted the hot key for 7.1.

When I attempted to assign the hot key to my wife's installation of
jfw8, no matter where I assigned the hot key, in start menu or desk
top, it would not stick. It was not that it was assigned somewhere
else on the computer, just control-alt-j would not work. It still
doesn't. I've been doing these computers since 1992 so this is an old
procedure which in a new way, does not work no matter how I fiddle with it.
