The short answer is sort of. Once you've paid for your upgrade, FS has to enter it into their database. Once that's done, you can simply reauthorize whenever, and you don't have to wait for anything in the mail. You'll be able to check on the status of the updates by going to www.fsactivate.com.

Hi all!
I will hopefully be upgrading from Jaws 6 to jaws 7 tomorrow, and I have a few questions. I'll need the pro version, and I intend to purchase an SMA as well. How much will that cost? If memory serves me correctly, it should be a little over $600, but it's been awhile since I list order the program and SMA together. Secondly, while waiting for my Jaws CD to by shipped, a friend of mine told me that I could download Jaws 7, and that my authorization file would recognize that I had upgraded, allowing me to run Jaws 7 on my machine immediately after ordering. I obviously don't doubt my friend, but I was wondering about other people's experiences. Have you been able to download and run your new version of Jaws immediately after paying for the upgrade? Have you had any problems? Thanks!
Allison
