Hi,

When I play music from Winamp and let it play an album I do not want the
JAWS announcements between the songs.

I do have a triple talk but have not connected it in the new location as
yet. (LOL)

Also, I do not have the Tripletalk installed in my laptop as yet.

Cy, The Anasazi..

Hello Cy:

What program are you using or, what are you doing with your computer that
you need to silence JAWS.

The only time I need to silence JAWS, is when I want to use, for example,
Total Recorder, to record audio from an external sound source, such as a
cassette deck, turn table, etc.

So far, I have not experienced what you are experiencing, when I switch back
to Eloquence, after using the No Speech Synthesizer.

Depending upon your answer, we might need to take this discussion off-list.

sincerely:

Dave Durber

Hi Dave,

Well, as an act of faith I gave this a shot.

I got JAWS turned off and, by golly, I even got it turned back on.

Now, there seems to be an awful amount of echo and duel reading.

Any hints?

Cy, The (amused) Anasazi..

Hello everyone:

This is a correction to my previous message on this thread.

To switch to the "No Speech Synthesizer", do the following:

press JAWS KEY+CTRL+S. This opens the "Select a Synthesizer Dialog Box".

Press the letter N, which will highlight the No Speech Synthesizer.

Press the ENTER key to accept your choice. The dialog box is closed and
JAWS stops speaking.

Do the following to return to the default synthesizer:

Press JAWS KEY+CTRL+S. This opens the "Select a Synthesizer Dialog Box".

Press, for example, the letter E, for Eloquence, the letter S, for SAPI 5.

When you have selected the synthesizer, Press the ENTER key to accept your
choice. The dialog box is closed and JAWS starts speaking.

Please accept my apologies for posting incorrect information.

Sincerely:

Dave Durber

Negoslav:

The information you included in your message works in the same way as the
last function under the "Adjust JAWS Options menu, Keystroke JAWS/INSERT+V.

The problem is that when you use either of these methods, JAWS will start
speaking again, as soon as a scheduled or system event starts and a new
window is opened, even if the window is open for a split second. This is
because the application in which you muted the synthesizer lost focus. This
would also be the case, even if focus was returned to the application in
which you had muted the synthesizer.

The only way to make sure that JAWS does not speak at all, is to switch to
the "No Speech Synthesizer".

You do this by pressing JAWS/INSERT+S, followed by the letter N, for the No
Speech synthesizer, followed by pressing the ENTER key. JAWS will not
speak, regardless as to any system or scheduled events that might be going
on.

You turn on the synthesizer by pressing JAWS/INSERT+S, followed by the
letter E, for Eloquence, the letter S, for SAPI, followed by pressing the
ENTER key.

HTH

Sincerely:

Here's some info from

http://www.jaws-users.com/text/JAWS/KeystrokeToMuteJAWS.html

Assigning A Keystroke To Mute JAWS

1. Bring up your keyboard manager with insert+8 on the number row.
2. Make sure you are focused on the default file.
3. Tab once in to the list of available functions.
4. Then start typing mute until you hear mute synthesizer, which will have
no keystroke, assigned.
5. Press control A and give it what ever keystroke your heart desires.
6. Save your changes when you close out the keyboard manager.

Note that this is a toggle kind of thing, and that JAWS will only remain
muted so long as you're focused on the current Window.

Hi,

No, I think I remember that there is a key which will toggle the speech on
and off. I do not want to quit JAWS and I am aware of the cntrl key with
will (in theory) cause JAWS to cease speaking the current text.

I simply want to silence JAWS until I want it to speak again.

Cy, The Anasazi..
