Hello there;

well, I'm not totally positive, however I don't think it's possible to set up
the dell built in webcam.

I also have a dell,
however,

when I go to start menu/programs,/dell webcam/console;
I just hear;
Webcam Console
CameraButton
Picture ControlsButton
Face TrackingButton
Pan and ZoomButton
SettingsButton.

however, choosing one of these, is easy to do, but, obviously, one will need
some vision, to make any changes, to settings, and such.

    Judy and Sugar,

Exactly the reason for my wanting to know the model of the Dell laptop in
question. It is entirely possible that it can be set up with JAWS, but without
a basic piece of essential information -- the actual Dell laptop in question --
no one on this list would know if they had the answer to the question, whether
it's possible to do with JAWS or not.

Webcam setup, like any other hardware may (or may not) be as simple as
using the add new hardware wizard in the control panel. However if it has its
own installation process and requires any amount of interaction with strictly
graphical images, such as having to align or center an image, evaluate a test
image, etc. would make it pretty useless to JAWS.

Not trying to be a grinch here, just trying to get a simple piece of
information to know whether I, or anyone can actually help.

The fact that this is almost certainly out of the realm of being a JAWS
question, and that it has involved as much mail traffic as it has with no
meaningful suggestions, might support Adrian's suggestion to bring it to the
attention of another list.

I think my question would be, as probably is Sugar's, does Jaws work
effectively in the set up of the web cam.

        Hi,

Personally, I'd like to ask Sugar a decision question: Is JAWS involved
in setup and operation of the webcam? The answer to this question would give
people a clue as to the next step you should take. Here, I guess I'd leave it
to the admin to work this out...

        Cheers,

        Joseph

        Judy, Sugar and Dave,

I think the real problem here is that this isn't a JAWS question. I'm
not sure why Dave insisted on knowing the type of monitor, but the request
itself demonstrates this isn't a JAWS question.

I recently posted a link to the PC-Audio list, which is a place for
blind computer users who might have some experience with gadgets to give
advice. That may be an option for you, Sugar. Other lists will be found with
Google.

The cautions expressed on this list about using a Web cam are
important. Personally, I'd be wary of making myself a Web cam subject without
having a sighted friend nearby to make sure I'm revealing nothing I might
regret. Sighted people are very aware of what they reveal to cameras. We need
to be, too.

        Hi, Sugar,

I'm also curious about using the web cam. The info you gave sounds
fine, but I think Dave was also wanting to know the type monitor. Maybe the
best thing to do is to call your computer manufacturer for that info. I think
you said Dell, right.

Hi everyone could someone please do me a favor, and explain to me what
it means to explain my operating system? I would like to be more knowledgeable
before I ask one more question, and I don't want to be "shut down"again I just
want to know what it means. When I am asked this question, i am thinking
whether I am useing jaws, xp, type of computer,etc... or something else. if
there is more, than I would like to know. with much appreciation sugar Be a
