Stacey, I use both and although there is a difference, they sound
and
respond pretty close to each other.
Tony An English professor wrote on the blackboard: Punctuate this sentence: 'Woman without her man is nothing'. The men wrote: 'Woman, without her man, is nothing.' All the women wrote: 'Woman! Without her, man is nothing.'

It's curious. Gary King is correct in saying that Dectalk USB isinferior.Among other things, I find it less responsive, but above all, asGary says,it's not as clear as Dectalk Express. Unfortunately, DectalkExpress is hardto find, while Dectalk USB is readily available, such as fromIRTI. I prizemy Dectalk Express and earnestly hope it doesn't break down.
For anyone wondering, both Dectalk Express and USB are external synthesizers. Dectalk Access 32 is a software version. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Whitefang" <whitefang@xxxxxxx

Just don't ever purchase a DECtalk USB thinking it is going tosound likeeither a DECtalk Express or DECtalk Access32. I only use myDECtalk USB whenit is absolutely necessary. It sounds like it was programmed bysomeone whois not a native English speaker. It reminds me of some of thereaders I hadin college a number of years ago.
I use DECtalk Access32 that I purchased from GW Micro most of thetime forreading EBooks, but I am trying out some of the RealSpeak voicesthat camewith JAWS 8.0.

I know that this is off topic now and I wanted to send it to theperson whogenerated the e-mail but I don't se the e-mail address for thisparticularperson.
yes, I remember the DECTalk synth you are talking about, theDECTalkPC/Express, where you had a card in the computer (much like yoursoundcardbut it was specifically for DECTalk.) I used this synth up untilI gotWindows XP and then had to find a DEC Express from somewhere.I've beenusing DECTalk products since using JAWS (in 1996) because at thattime therewas no Eloquence or Realspeak available. I remember whenEloquence came out.smiles. I also had DEC Access on my laptop but this is the firsttime thatI've used it in almost 7 years because I was told that itwouldn't work withJFW 3.7. I've surprisingly gotten used to Eloquence and don'thate it asmuch as I used to, but after hours of studying it would have beennice tohave a DECTalk synth on my laptop last semester. the thing that Iwould sayabout the performance of the DEC Access is that it is quieterthanEloquence, and a little bit more robotic when compared to the DECExpress, but I still like it nonetheless. also, when compared to realspeakit is notsluggish at all (as I still find realspeak to be). realspeak isokay whendoing a say-all but for general navigation Eloquence or DECTalkis muchbettter.
