Probably for the same reason people use any other external synthasizer when
elequence is available. I used to use it, back when version 2.0 was the
biggest and brightest thing Henter-Joyce ever came out with. God, I feel
old... but I'm not. Anyway, granted there was no elequence then, but in
some ways I found it a little better. For instance, playing games. You want
to hear what's going on in a game more than you want to hear JFW. If you
have an external synth, you can just turn it down. If you turn your
speakers down while you use elequence, that and the game effects will be
hushed a little more. Yes, it's a poor example... but it's the best one I
can think of without caffeine.
